HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – Barnstable Police, along with Hyannis Firefighters, responded to the Tiki Port restaurant parking lot shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Sunday following reports that a white pickup truck had struck two pedestrians and then fled the scene.
Moments later, a Barnstable Police officer spotted a white pickup truck matching the description of the suspect vehicle. The officer stopped the truck on Route 28 at the intersection with Hiramar Road, according to police reports. One occupant was arrested at the scene, a second was taken into protective custody, and a third was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with a head injury.
At the Tiki Port, a woman in her early twenties was transported to Cape Cod Gateway Airport, where she was then airlifted via Medflight helicopter to an off-Cape trauma hospital. The second pedestrian injured at Tiki Port was transported to Cape Cod Hospital.
The Tiki Port parking lot was cordoned off with crime scene tape as investigators began their work. The Barnstable County Sheriff’s crime scene unit arrived to collect blood samples, photographs, and additional evidence for DNA analysis. A Barnstable Police accident reconstruction expert also responded to the scene.
While investigators were working the Tiki Port crime scene, Barnstable and state police cruisers were called to the parking lot outside Cape Cod Hospital. Police were responding to a report of a group of approximately 15 people, believed to be involved in the earlier incident at Tiki Port. The group reportedly dispersed before the police arrived, but officers remained on scene for a period of time.
