Raipur, March 9 – A tragic accident in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district claimed the lives of two women and left 35 others injured when a pick-up truck overturned while en route to a ‘Chouthiya’ ceremony, a post-wedding function.
The incident occurred near Palani Pat in the Kotwali city police station area. According to police reports, the vehicle, carrying family members of the Sahu family, lost control before overturning into a field approximately 10 feet below the main road. The victims, hailing from Singhanpuri village, were on their way to a relative’s event in Sahaspur-Lohara. Initial reports indicate there were approximately 100 people traveling in two pick-up trucks.
Two women, Urvashi Sahu, reported to be in her teens, and Mukhin Sahu, died at the government hospital. An eight-year-old girl is in critical condition. Of the 35 injured, five are reported to be in serious condition and were initially taken to the district hospital in Kawardha, with the most critical cases transferred to Raipur for further treatment.

Eyewitnesses reported the vehicle was traveling at high speed. Local residents promptly alerted the police, and ambulances and rescue teams arrived at the scene to provide assistance. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma immediately directed the district administration to initiate relief efforts. Many of the seriously injured have also been admitted to private hospitals.
The administration was instructed to ensure immediate support for the injured, and all available government and private ambulances were deployed. The families of the deceased are experiencing profound grief. Bhavna Bohra, a legislator from the Pandaria Assembly constituency, visited the hospital, assuring medical staff and officials that all possible support would be provided to the injured. She later expressed her condolences on social media. In a message, she stated, “Today, the sad news was received that the people in the pickup vehicle Mazda were injured when it overturned near Sarodha Dam near Palani Pat in Kawardha. I met the injured victims and their families, enquired about their well-being, and directed the health department to provide them proper treatment and adequate facilities. I wish for the speedy recovery of all the people injured in this tragic accident.”
