Tesla Model 3 Performance Gets a Boost
Leaked specifications from South Korea offer a glimpse into the upcoming Tesla Model 3 Performance, promising more power and speed than ever before for the all-electric vehicle. After the recent release of the Rear-Wheel-Drive and Long Range Model 3 variants in the U.S., many were eagerly awaiting the Performance version. Now, it seems the wait was worthwhile.
Based on leaked documents, the new Model 3 Performance will likely focus on delivering increased speed and power.
Horsepower and Motor Upgrades
The leaked information reveals the Model 3 Performance will feature a 3D3 front motor and a 4D2 rear motor configuration. While the 3D3 motor is similar to the one found in the Model 3 Long Range (212 horsepower), the 4D2 motor is brand new, producing a robust 406 horsepower. The previous Performance model utilized a 3D1 motor, generating 298 horsepower.
With these upgrades, the total horsepower of the new Model 3 Performance is estimated at 618, a considerable jump from the previous model’s 505 horsepower. The motors are rated at 158 kW and 303 kW, respectively. The new 4D2 motor’s peak power will be reached at 110 km/h (68 MPH), whereas the prior model’s peak was between 43 and 46 MPH.
Weight and Battery
Despite the increase in power, the new Model 3 Performance is reported to have the same weight as the previous version, which is quite impressive. The vehicle will also retain the same 82 kWh battery pack. This should result in a range that is similar to the prior version, although official EPA ratings may vary due to updated testing procedures.
Ludicrous Mode?
Enthusiasts hoping for a dedicated Ludicrous version of the Model 3 may be disappointed. The leaked documents refer to the vehicle as the Model 3 Performance, with no mention of Ludicrous mode.
