According to a report from Mopar Insiders, the HEMI V8 engine lineup and the supercharged HELLCAT V8 are expected to make a comeback in Ram and Dodge vehicles. Production is reportedly scheduled to begin in August 2025 at the Dundee, Michigan, engine plant.
Important Note: This information is based on an unofficial report. While Mopar Insiders has a reputation for reliable sources, this news is not yet confirmed by Stellantis North America, the parent company of Ram and Dodge. The Dundee Engine Plant’s official website currently makes no mention of V8 engine production. The plant, a 1.3 million square foot facility, was last updated in September 2024 and is slated to produce components for the STLA Frame electric/hybrid trucks, including battery trays and front/rear chassis beams. The STLA Frame chassis will be used in the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Ram REV pickup trucks.
Historically, Ram and Dodge’s V8 engines were produced in Saltillo, Mexico. The report suggests a shift in production to the United States, specifically to Michigan.
This move includes a planned restart of production for a complete lineup of gasoline V8 engines. The engines anticipated to return include the 5.7L V8, the 6.4L (392) Apache performance V8, the 6.2L supercharged HELLCAT V8, and a larger displacement V8 that has yet to be announced. It is speculated that the larger displacement V8 might be destined for Ram’s heavy-duty pickup truck lineup, but no official information is available at this time.
It’s assumed that these engines will be paired with the 8-speed ZF automatic transmissions, similar to previous configurations. Specific power output details for these engines are currently unavailable.
There is hope that the engine designs will be updated to address known issues, such as the ‘HEMI tick’. Enthusiasts are hopeful that the 5.7L V8 could return with at least 400 horsepower, the 6.4L V8 with at least 470 horsepower, and the HELLCAT V8 with at least 720 horsepower.
