NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — A van that crashed into both a car and a pawn shop in New Britain on Monday may have experienced “possible mechanical failures,” according to Rachel Zaniewski, the city’s communications director.

At approximately 9:25 a.m., New Britain police officers responded to the scene of the accident, located at the intersection of Slater Road and West Main Street. Investigators determined that the van was traveling west on Slater Road when it failed to stop at the intersection. Zaniewski cited potential mechanical issues as the cause.
The van collided with a car on West Main Street before continuing on and striking Jaws Mega Pawn & Trading Post. The vehicle eventually came to a stop inside the building, Zaniewski said. Surveillance footage from the pawn shop’s owner reportedly captured the van going airborne after hitting the car and before it crashed into the structure.
EMS personnel transported the adults inside the van to a local hospital to treat minor injuries, Zaniewski confirmed.
