Volkswagen ID. Buzz Review
VW’s ID. Buzz isn’t just another EV, it’s a throwback to the iconic Type 2, reimagined for the electric era. This family-friendly wagon aims to inject some fun into the MPV segment. Is it a success?

What’s the Buzz About?
The ID. Buzz takes the form of a funky, retro-inspired vehicle. It boasts a spacious interior, sliding doors, and a generous boot. It’s designed to be a desirable alternative to the typical MPV. Currently, there are three versions: a five-seater, a cargo van, and a stretched seven-seater.

Seven Seats are the Sweet Spot
The seven-seater is the one you want. It addresses the ID. Buzz’s main issue – space. The stretched wheelbase means you can comfortably seat seven while giving everyone plenty of space to stretch out.
Under the Skin
The ID. Buzz sits on the same MEB platform as the ID.3 and ID.4. It’s had a wheelbase increase for better space and uses sliding doors on both sides making access easy. The RWD five-seat version now has 282bhp, taking it from 0-60mph in 7.6 seconds. It has a 79kWh battery, offering around 200-230 miles of real-world range, possibly less if it’s winter. The seven-seater bumps the battery to 86kWh, offering a claimed 291 miles.

Driving Experience
The driving environment is a strong point. The upright windscreen and large windows create an airy feel, and the dash design adds to the uplifting vibe. It’s easy to drive, delivering a sense of well-being that many SUVs can’t match. The rear seats are less exciting but offer sliding and folding options. The Cargo version is less luxurious, with more basic materials.
Performance Options
For those seeking added pep, there’s the GTX version featuring all-wheel drive, a combined 335bhp, and a 0-62mph dash in 6.1 seconds. It also offers a towing capacity of 1,800 kg.
Practicality and Pricing
The five-seater offers a large 1,121-liter boot, which expands to 2,469 liters with the seats folded. Prices start at around £59,035 for the five-seater and the seven-seater adds very little to that price, making it the best option. The GTX is priced from £67,435 with the Cargo version a bit cheaper.
The Verdict
The ID. Buzz is something different, an attempt to create an anti-SUV family car. Overall, it’s a vehicle that is both engaging and uplifting. The seven-seater unlocks the Buzz’s full potential. The driving environment is brilliant; the driving experience is easygoing. While its range may be less than perfect, it is a solid choice as an alternative to a premium crossover or SUV.
