The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced that Volkswagen is recalling over 60,000 electric vehicles in the United States due to a software issue. The problem involves a failure to properly display the gear position, potentially increasing the risk of vehicle rollaway if the parking brake is not engaged.
The recall, announced on Saturday, affects a total of 60,490 vehicles. Specifically, it impacts certain 2021-2023 Volkswagen ID.4 models, as well as 2022-2023 Audi Q4 e-Tron and Q4 e-Tron Sportback cars, according to the NHTSA.
The issue was first identified in August after five cases were reported outside the U.S. The software glitch causes the gear position to not display correctly. Volkswagen is working to notify and rectify the issue for affected vehicle owners.
This recall follows a separate recall last month. That prior recall, which affected around 30,000 vehicles, was related to rearview cameras not displaying properly and primarily affected Audi Q3 models and some Volkswagen Tiguan and Arteon cars. The NHTSA emphasizes the importance of addressing such safety concerns promptly.
