Volkswagen is recalling over 60,000 electric vehicles in the United States because of a display issue that could lead to dangerous situations.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall on Saturday, affecting a total of 60,490 electric cars. The problem involves a software glitch that can prevent the gear position from displaying correctly. This could lead to a vehicle rolling away if the parking brake isn’t engaged, increasing the risk of accidents.
The recall includes certain 2021-2023 Volkswagen ID.4 models, as well as 2022-2023 Audi Q4 e-Tron and Q4 e-Tron Sportback vehicles, according to the NHTSA.
The issue was first identified in August after five cases were reported outside of the U.S. Volkswagen is working to notify vehicle owners and fix the problem.
It is important to address safety concerns quickly, as the NHTSA has emphasized.
This is the second recall issued by Volkswagen in recent months. Last month, the company recalled approximately 30,000 vehicles due to a rearview camera display problem, affecting Audi Q3, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Arteon models.
