Volkswagen ID. Every1 Concept Previews Budget-Friendly Electric Car
Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. Every1 concept, providing a glimpse into the brand’s upcoming entry-level electric vehicle (EV). Expected to arrive in showrooms in 2027, the ID. Every1 is designed to become Volkswagen’s most affordable electric offering. The new model is expected to be priced from €20,000 (approximately $AU34,000).
This city-sized, all-electric hatchback is a successor to the Volkswagen Up! and is one of nine new Volkswagen models scheduled for release within the next two and a half years. The ID. Every1 is positioned below the larger ID.2, a Polo-sized electric hatch slated for European showrooms later this year, which is expected to cost around €25,000 (approximately $AU42,500).
Thomas Schafer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, noted that the ID. Every1 “is the last piece of the puzzle on our journey to having the widest model selection in the volume segment.” He further stated that the company will “offer every customer the right car with the right drive system – including affordable entry-level all-electric mobility.”
Design and Specifications
Measuring 3880mm long, 1490mm wide, and 1816mm high, the ID. Every1 is slightly shorter than a Volkswagen Polo and longer than a Kia Picanto. The concept car boasts 19-inch alloy wheels, muscular wheel arches, a ‘floating’ roof design, and iconic Volkswagen design elements, such as the C-pillar reminiscent of the Golf hatch.
Internally, the ID. Every1 features “lounge-like” seating for four occupants and seats primarily constructed from recycled materials. It offers a 50:50 split-fold rear-seat bench and 305 liters of boot space, which is 54 liters more than the Volkswagen Up! has.
The car includes a two-spoke, squared multi-function steering wheel that incorporates a digital instrument cluster and a center touchscreen. Physical buttons for the air conditioning, seat heaters, and audio system volume are located on the center stack, while the front passenger side of the dash has been constructed to hold a tablet or small shelf.
The center console is movable, allowing it to slide to the rear passenger area. This is a similar design to the flexible interior of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz.
Powertrain and Technology
The ID. Every1’s engine is a front-mounted 70kW electric motor, with an expected range of at least 250km (based on European testing). The production version also introduces a “fundamentally new, particularly powerful software architecture,” according to Volkswagen, which will allow for new features to be added throughout the vehicle’s lifespan. This will use a lower-cost, front-wheel-drive version of VW’s MEB electric-car platform.
Australian Market Prospects
Volkswagen Australia has not yet confirmed whether the ID. Every1 will be available in local showrooms. The brand’s current EV offerings in Australia include the ID. Buzz – the winner of Drive Car of the Year 2025 Best Family Electric Vehicle under $100K – with the Tesla Model Y-rivalling Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 SUVs scheduled for delivery by mid-2025, and is priced from $59,990 before on-road costs.
Volkswagen Australia has been delayed in bringing its electric cars to market due to more stringent emissions regulations that have prioritised other geographic areas. Volkswagen’s global sales saw approximately 383,100 electric cars sold in 2024, which is about 8.9% of the 4.3 million total vehicles it sold.
