Volkswagen is gearing up to introduce its most budget-friendly electric vehicle yet, with the anticipated arrival of the city-sized ID. Every1 in 2027. This marks a significant move for the automaker, presenting a potential successor to the Volkswagen Up! and adding to the forthcoming lineup of nine new Volkswagens slated for showrooms by 2027.

ID. Every1: A Compact and Affordable EV

Unveiled recently, the ID. Every1 is a concept car offering a glimpse into the production-ready ID.1 model. This compact EV is expected to be priced from €20,000 (approximately $AU34,000). The concept vehicle is shorter than a Volkswagen Polo from nose to tail, but slightly longer than a Kia Picanto. The ID. Every1 is a part of Volkswagen’s broader strategy to expand its electric vehicle offerings, spanning from the ID.2, which is due later this year, to the larger ID.7 and the ID. Buzz electric people mover and commercial vans.

“The ID. Every1 is the last piece of the puzzle on our journey to having the widest model selection in the volume segment,” stated Thomas Schafer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars. “We will then offer every customer the right car with the right drive system – including affordable entry-level all-electric mobility.”

    Expected Features and Specifications

Powering the ID. Every1 is a 70kW front electric motor, promising a driving range of “at least” 250km based on European testing standards. Furthermore, the production model will integrate a new, advanced software architecture, enabling the addition of new features throughout its lifecycle. Based on an MEB electric-car platform, configured for front-wheel drive, the ID. Every1 measures 3880mm in length, 1490mm in width, and 1816mm in height – fitting snuggly between the Volkswagen Up! and the Polo.

Inside the concept, the ID. Every1 features lounge-style seating designed for four occupants. The interior incorporates recycled materials, a 50:50 split-fold rear seat and a boot with a capacity of 305 litres. A digital instrument cluster, along with a central touchscreen, will be integrated into the vehicle’s two-spoke multifunctional steering wheel. Physical buttons for air conditioning, seat heating, and audio controls will be featured on the center stack, with the passenger side of the dashboard designed to accommodate a tablet or even a shelf.

Volkswagen Australia has yet to confirm local showroom availability for the ID. Every1 model. The ID. Buzz is currently the only battery-electric vehicle in Volkswagen Australia showrooms. However, this is set to change with the imminent arrival of the Tesla Model Y-rivalling Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 SUVs, with test drives planned before customer deliveries by mid-2025. These models are expected to be priced from $59,990 before on-road costs.

Volkswagen’s sales in Australia declined by 16.8% in 2024. Globally, the Volkswagen Group sold 383,100 electric cars, representing about 8.9% of the company’s total sales of 4.3 million vehicles.
