Volvo is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with the upcoming ES90, a sleek new sedan that remixes the brand’s familiar design language and technology. The car features a blend of sedan and SUV design elements.

The ES90’s design is similar to that of the Polestar 2, a car that’s also part of the Volvo family. However, it will be larger than its Scandinavian cousin. The ES90, closer in size to the Tesla Model S, offers more interior space. With over seven inches of ground clearance, the ES90 should provide an SUV-like seating position and enhanced visibility.
The EV’s liftback design also adds to its practicality, making loading large items easier. The LED segments at the rear window, are a design highlight for Volvo sedans. The ES90 maintains the brand’s signature C-shaped taillights while echoing the SUV’s vertical tail lamp design.
Three powertrain options are planned: Single Motor, Dual Motor, and Dual Motor Performance configurations, offering a range of performance characteristics.
Like the EX90 SUV, the ES90 will incorporate advanced driver-assistance technology, utilizing a roof-mounted lidar sensor, alongside an array of radar, camera, and ultrasonic sensors.
While pricing and availability details have not yet been released for the US market, preorders are expected to open in the coming months, with more details to follow.
