Volvo has revealed the ES90, its first all-electric car that departs from the SUV or people mover formats. This new model, described as a sedan-esque vehicle with a hatchback tailgate, offers impressive range and is slated to arrive in Australia in late 2025.
This marks a significant addition to Volvo’s electric vehicle lineup. The ES90 aims to provide a stylish and practical alternative to the existing electric SUVs, such as the EX90.
The ES90’s design blends elements of a sedan, a fastback, and an SUV, aiming to be in “a class of its own.” While it shares design cues with the Polestar 2 and Polestar 4, it is built on the same SPA2 electric-car platform as the EX90.
The ES90 will be available in three variants: Single Motor Extended Range, Twin Motor, and Twin Motor Performance, with rear- or all-wheel-drive options. The Single Motor Extended Range features a 245kW motor and an 88kWh battery, offering a claimed range of 650km. The Twin Motor model offers 330kW and a 700km range with a 102kWh battery. The top-of-the-line Twin Motor Performance maintains the 700km range, but boasts a 500kW output.
The ES90’s 800-volt electrical system supports fast charging, allowing for a 10 to 80 percent recharge in just 20 minutes using a 350kW DC charger. This advanced electrical architecture also allows the car to add 300km of range in around 10 minutes.
Inside, the ES90 features a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 9.0-inch instrument display, and a head-up display. The vehicle will also have a 360-degree camera with a 3D view for parking assistance. Additional features include a panoramic glass roof, four-zone climate control, and a top-tier audio system with 25 speakers.
Volvo claims the ES90 has a remarkably quiet interior. The vehicle is about five meters long with a 3.1-meter wheelbase.
Orders have opened in key European markets, with deliveries starting mid-year. The ES90 is expected to arrive in Australia by late 2025.
