Volvo ES90 Electric Sedan: A New Era for Electric Mobility
Volvo has officially unveiled its first all-electric sedan, the ES90, marking a significant step in the brand’s transition to electric vehicles. The new model boasts impressive range capabilities, a refined design, modern features, and advanced technology, positioning it as a flagship EV.

Design and Platform
The ES90 stays true to Volvo’s design heritage, incorporating the brand’s signature styling, including the iconic ‘Thor’ hammer LED headlights and a closed-off grille, denoting its electric powertrain. Aerodynamic efficiency is a key focus, evident in the streamlined roofline, which also features a LiDAR hump. The side profile of the ES90 is reminiscent of the S90 sedan sold in international markets, and it will be available with alloy wheels ranging from 20 to 22 inches in size.
The ES90 is built on the modular SPA2 platform, which also underpins the Volvo EX90 SUV, further highlighting the brand’s commitment to platform sharing to enhance production efficiency and technology implementation.
Interior and Features
Inside, the ES90 features a modern and tech-forward cabin that emphasizes both functionality and luxury. Dominating the dashboard is a 14.5-inch portrait-style touchscreen display, providing access to the vehicle’s infotainment and control systems. This system supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with 5G connectivity and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.
Additional features include a 9-inch digital driver’s display, an electrochromic sunroof with UV protection, ambient lighting, and a premium 25-speaker Bowers and Wilkins sound system with Dolby Atmos. Safety is paramount, with the ES90 equipped with advanced safety technologies such as LiDAR sensors, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and five radars to ensure occupant safety.
Range and Charging
A key highlight of the Volvo ES90 is its impressive range. The vehicle is powered by a 106 kWh battery pack, providing a range of up to 700 km on a single charge. The ES90 also incorporates 800V technology, which is essential for faster and more efficient charging.
Using a 350 kW charger, the battery can gain approximately 300 km of range in just 10 minutes, making it convenient for long journeys and quick top-ups.
Availability
The Volvo ES90 will initially be available for sale in select European markets, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Sweden. Expansion into other markets is planned for 2025 and 2026, suggesting that Volvo intends to gradually roll out the ES90 globally.
