Volvo Debuts All-Electric ES90 Sedan
Volvo has officially unveiled the ES90, its latest all-electric offering. The new sedan boasts cutting-edge technology, a luxurious interior, and impressive performance, aiming to redefine the premium EV experience.

Advanced Technology and Performance
Built on Volvo’s most advanced battery platform to date, the ES90 is the first Volvo model to feature an 800-volt architecture. This technological leap allows for remarkably fast charging, with the battery capable of reaching an 80% charge in just 20 minutes when connected to a 350kWh charger. Furthermore, the ES90 is the first Volvo car to incorporate the advanced Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chip. This chip promises significant gains, with an anticipated “eightfold improvement” in AI performance. This enhanced AI powers the vehicle’s safety and connectivity features, further elevating the driving experience.
“The Volvo ES90 combines our most advanced technologies with Scandinavian design and superior comfort, creating a true premium Volvo car designed to elevate your quality of life,” says Volvo CEO Jim Rowan.

The ES90 also enables bi-directional charging, a feature that allows drivers to use the car’s battery to power their homes or sell energy back to the grid. Pricing details haven’t been officially released, but industry estimates put the ES90 in the $70,000-$80,000 range. The vehicle is projected to achieve a range of up to 435 miles based on the European WLTP testing cycle. Volvo will release U.S. market specifications, including EPA range estimates, closer to the vehicle’s dealer debut in the United States.
Interior Features and Technology
Inside, the ES90 prioritizes passenger comfort and technological integration. A panoramic roof provides 99% UV protection, and its transparency can be adjusted at the touch of a button. The advanced air purifier and “one of [Volvo’s] quietest cabins ever,” combined with a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, contribute to a truly premium feel. These attention to sensory details are standard in Volvo’s vehicles, further defining its exclusive brand.

The ES90 boasts a 14.5-inch center display and a 9-inch driver display, powered by Google’s built-in infotainment system and Qualcomm’s 5G Snapdragon Cockpit Platform. Critical driving information is displayed on a head-up display on the windshield. A new 3D, 360-degree camera view system enhances parking capabilities, particularly in tight spaces. On the road, a sophisticated sensor system, including “cameras, radars, ultrasonic sensors, and LiDAR,” helps mitigate collisions and enhance driver safety. The ES90 joins the Volvo EX30 and EX90 SUVs, expanding the company’s growing all-electric lineup.

Competitive Landscape
With its premium features and performance, the Volvo ES90 is positioned to compete with established luxury EVs. It could be a compelling choice for buyers considering the Lucid Air (starting at $69,900), the BMW i4 (starting at $52,200), or the Mercedes EQE (starting at $74,900). For those seeking a more affordable electric car, the Hyundai Ioniq 6, Tesla Model 3, and the upcoming Kia EV4 will also be formidable contenders.
