Volvo has revealed its all-new ES90, a fully electric sedan packed with innovative technology and designed for a premium driving experience.
Built on Volvo’s most advanced battery platform to date, the ES90 introduces an 800-volt architecture, which allows for impressively fast charging times. On a 350kWh charger, the battery can be replenished in just 20 minutes. The ES90 also marks the first Volvo to incorporate an advanced Nvidia Drive AGX Orin chip. This upgrade promises an “eightfold improvement” in artificial intelligence performance, enhancing the vehicle’s safety and connectivity systems.
“The Volvo ES90 combines our most advanced technologies with Scandinavian design and superior comfort, creating a true premium Volvo car designed to elevate your quality of life,” said Volvo CEO Jim Rowan.
Beyond its advanced technological features, the ES90 offers practical benefits as well. It supports bi-directional charging, enabling drivers to power their homes or even sell energy back to the grid using the car’s battery.
While the official pricing has not been announced, estimates place it in the $70,000-$80,000 range. Regarding range, the ES90 boasts up to 435 miles on the European WLTP test cycle. However, this range is likely to be adjusted for the US market based on EPA estimates. Volvo will confirm the details for the US market closer to the vehicle’s dealer debut.
The ES90 prioritizes occupant comfort with several high-end features. A panoramic roof provides 99% UV protection and allows adjustable transparency at the touch of a button. The vehicle also includes an advanced air purifier and a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system. These premium sensory details are core to the Volvo brand, enhancing the overall driving experience.
Other notable tech features incorporated in the ES90 include a 14.5-inch center display, complemented by a 9-inch driver display, powered by Google’s built-in infotainment system and Qualcomm’s 5G Snapdragon Cockpit Platform. Additionally, critical information will be displayed on a small head-up display projected on the windshield.
A new 3D, 360-degree camera view aids in parking in tight spaces, and an advanced sensor system, incorporating “cameras, radars, ultrasonic sensors, and LiDAR,” is designed to help mitigate collisions. All of these elements are crafted to give drivers peace of mind and make the driving experience more intuitive.
The Volvo ES90 joins the EX30 and EX90 SUVs, completing the company’s latest EV lineup. It positions itself as a potential option for affluent consumers who may also be considering vehicles like the Lucid Air (priced from $69,900), the BMW i4 (starting at $52,200), or the Mercedes EQE (with a starting price of $74,900).
