Volvo has revealed its all-electric ES90, introducing a new flagship EV for the brand. This marks a significant step for Volvo, as the ES90 is the first of their cars to feature 800-volt technology, a key enabler of both extended range and rapid charging capabilities. The ES90 joins a growing family of fully-electric models, becoming the sixth EV in Volvo’s global lineup, which already includes the EX90, EM90, EX40, EC40, and EX30.
Design and Aesthetics
The ES90 stays true to Volvo’s distinctive design language, incorporating signature elements such as the ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlight design. The overall silhouette of the car draws a family resemblance to the Volvo S90 sedan. The rear of the ES90 is characterized by C-shaped LED tail lamps. Customers will have a palette of seven exterior colors to choose from, along with four alloy wheel options, ranging in size from 20 to 20 inches, allowing for personalization.

Interior and Technology
Inside, the ES90 offers a familiar Volvo experience, prioritizing both comfort and technology. Benefitting from a 3.1-meter wheelbase, the ES90 ensures ample legroom for passengers in the second row. The cabin enhances the ambiance with six interior ambient light schemes, complemented by a panoramic roof featuring up to 99% UV protection; an electrochromic version allows adjusting the transparency of the glass. In terms of equipment, the ES90 comes equipped with a four-zone climate control system with an air purifier. A premium 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, incorporating spatial audio from Dolby Atmos, provides an immersive audio experience.
The ES90’s infotainment system is equipped with 5G connectivity and integrated Google services, comprising Google Maps and Google Assistant. The system is controlled via a 14.5-inch central touchscreen. A 9-inch digital instrument cluster is provided to the driver, along with a head-up display (HUD).
Platform, Battery and Powertrain
Built upon Volvo’s SPA2 architecture, the ES90, like the EX90, incorporates Volvo’s Superset tech stack. The Superset technology integrates a unified set of hardware and software modules that will underpin all of Volvo’s future electric vehicles. This design facilitates seamless over-the-air (OTA) updates throughout the vehicle’s lifecycle, enhancing both performance and safety.
While specific powertrain details are yet to be fully disclosed, Volvo confirms that the ES90 will use 800-volt technology, allowing for faster charging, improved performance, and increased efficiency. Volvo estimates that the ES90 can add up to 300km of range in only 10 minutes when charging at a 350kW fast-charging station. The ES90 is expected to provide a driving range of up to 700km based on the WLTP testing cycle.

The ES90 is available for order in select global markets, and Volvo plans to expand availability to additional markets by 2026. Availability in India has not yet been confirmed.
