FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. – A Waynesboro woman sustained serious injuries Wednesday morning when the Fluvanna County emergency vehicle she was driving collided with a pickup truck, resulting in a fatality.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:51 a.m. at the intersection of James Madison Highway and East River Road. According to the Virginia State Police (VSP), the emergency vehicle was traveling north on James Madison Highway when it struck a Ford F-150 that had entered the intersection from East River Road. The F-150 had entered the intersection from East River Road, where a stop sign is posted. The emergency vehicle had its lights and siren activated at the time of the collision.
The emergency vehicle struck the truck on the driver’s side. The driver of the F-150, Luis J. Sanchez, 61, from Henrico, died at the scene. The truck’s passenger, Marco H. Guerrero, 42, suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. Both men were wearing seatbelts, VSP confirmed.
The driver of the emergency vehicle, Virginia R. Davis, 21, of Waynesboro, also sustained serious injuries. Hunter C. Aimes, 32, a passenger in the emergency vehicle, received minor injuries. Both Davis and Aimes were wearing seatbelts and were taken to local hospitals, the VSP reported.
