Current Ambitions
In a modest office, more akin to a startup than a traditional institution, Yossapong Laoonual, honorary chairman of the Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand, speaks with considerable enthusiasm. He believes clinging to internal-combustion engines is “like doubling down on horse-drawn carriages long after motorised vehicles became the standard.” This optimism seems justified when considering the facilities at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi in Bangkok, where he serves. Three electric buses are parked near a charging station, and signs detail the engineering college’s carbon-neutrality plan.
