Will Nivin Pauly’s ‘Thaaram’ Resume Production? Director Shares Update
Nivin Pauly’s highly anticipated Malayalam film, ‘Thaaram,’ which began filming in November 2022, was unexpectedly put on hold after just one day of shooting. Director Vinay Govind has now provided an update on the project’s status.

The film’s pause led to speculation among fans, fueled in part by producer Listin Stephen’s comments. Stephen had remarked that the OTT rights for his collaboration with Nivin Pauly, ‘Ramachandra Boss & Co,’ had yet to be sold. He compared the actor’s film to a “luxury car,” alluding to his remuneration and market value, suggesting the project hadn’t delivered the anticipated returns.
In an exclusive interview with OTTplay, director Vinay Govind, who dedicated approximately seven years to developing ‘Thaaram,’ addressed the project’s current state. The film was also slated to star Nikhila Vimal, Kayadu Lohar, and Vinay Forrt.
“It’s a big budget film and it requires a lot of people from different industries to come together. The biggest challenge for Thaaram is to bring all of them together, and our industry hasn’t seen too many of such big budget ventures. It’s also a movie that has to be done on that scale for it to work,” Govind explained, whose recent film ‘Get-Set Baby’ was released on February 21.

Explaining the reason for the production halt, the director added, “We also wanted Nivin in a particular physical appearance. Because of the backlogs due to the pandemic, it didn’t happen even when all the permutations and combinations with other actors had almost worked out. However, he is now getting back in shape. So, hopefully let’s see. Things will again have to fall in place.”
Meanwhile, Nivin Pauly has several exciting projects in the pipeline for 2025. These include Adithyan Chandrashekhar’s ‘Multiverse Manmadhan,’ in which he’ll play a superhero. He is also scheduled to reprise his role in Abrid Shine’s ‘Action Hero Biju 2’ and will have an extended cameo in George Philip Roy and Sandeep Kumar’s ‘Dear Students’ alongside Nayanthara.
