A Wisconsin woman, Makayla Starks, is now the owner of a new 2023 electric vehicle, a gift from Family Nissan in Inwood, New York, after an incident that made national headlines. Starks discovered that a racial slur had been written on her oil change sticker after taking her car into a dealership.
“I can’t imagine people this far from home would care so much,” Starks said, expressing her surprise and gratitude. Family Nissan of Inwood learned of the incident through Automotive News, a popular industry website.
The Long Island dealership decided to gift Starks a Nissan Leaf from its fleet. Ramzey Rizk of Family Nissan explained the gesture, “The idea for the electric model is so she doesn’t have to get an oil change and remember the hateful incident.”
Family Nissan has also arranged for the car to be transported to Starks’ home in Wisconsin.
