An 85-year-old woman struck by a vehicle in South Anchorage last month has died from her injuries, according to Anchorage police. Clara Mattice was hit near DeArmoun and Elmore roads on June 19, just before noon. Anchorage Fire Department medics took her to a local hospital where she was treated for life-threatening injuries. Police were informed of her death on Saturday.
The driver who struck Mattice remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, according to police spokesperson Christopher Barraza. As of Wednesday, Barraza stated that no additional information was available.
Mattice’s death marks the 10th pedestrian fatality in Anchorage this year. The recent fatalities include two collisions along C Street last month.
In a separate incident, police are investigating a hit-and-run collision that occurred on June 8 at Benson Boulevard and C Street. According to police, an adult male pedestrian was crossing Benson Boulevard in the crosswalk when he was struck by a Toyota Tundra truck turning onto C Street. Road cameras captured the incident, describing the vehicle as a black Toyota Tundra extended-cab pickup manufactured between 2014 and 2021.
