Workhorse, a US-based manufacturer, has announced that its W56 and W750 electric step vans have received approval from the Canadian government, allowing them to be imported and sold in Canada. The company has reported strong interest from Canadian businesses in its electric vehicles.
Vehicle Specifications
The W56 step van boasts a range of up to 150 miles on a single charge of its 210 kWh battery and features 1,000 cubic feet of cargo space, expandable to 1,200 cubic feet with an extended wheelbase variant. Charging options include a 20 kW Level 2 charger, which takes 11-12 hours, and up to 100 kW DC fast charging via CCS, reducing charging time to three to four hours. Workhorse estimates the vehicle’s energy efficiency at 1.4 kWh/mi.
The W750 model comes equipped with a 118 kWh battery, offering a similar range of up to 150 miles. It provides 750 cubic feet of cargo space and has a payload capacity of up to 5,000 pounds. The W750 can be charged using 11 kW AC, taking around 11 hours, or with up to 61 kW DC fast charging via CCS, cutting the charging time to three to four hours. Its energy efficiency is rated at 1.3 mi/kWh.

“This is a major step forward for Workhorse,” stated Josh Anderson, Workhorse Chief Technology Officer. “Pre-clearance from Transport Canada opens up a large new market for our products throughout Canada, including with fleets that operate across borders in North America.” The company plans to commence on-road testing of demo trucks with a Canadian last-mile delivery fleet by the second quarter of 2025.
The approval comes with potential challenges, as Workhorse faces uncertainty regarding the impact of tariffs on imported vehicles from the US on its Canadian expansion plans. Nonetheless, the company remains optimistic about entering the Canadian market with its electric step vans, which promise reliable, zero-emission solutions for customers.
