World EV Day: A Look at the Electric Cars Shaping the Future
Today is World EV (Electric Vehicle) Day, and its significance grows each year as the global automotive industry steadily transitions towards cleaner mobility solutions. With new EVs launching worldwide annually, some are redefining automotive technology. Here’s a look at some of the most appealing electric cars sold internationally that we’d love to see on Indian roads.
Tesla Model Y
Given the current buzz surrounding Tesla’s potential entry into the Indian car market, including one of its top-selling and most popular models on this list is a must.

Tesla’s Model Y has a long-range battery that offers up to 330 miles (531 km) per charge and comes with dual-motor all-wheel drive, ensuring excellent performance, with a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of just 3.5 seconds for the Performance variant. A spacious cabin, advanced autopilot features, and access to Tesla’s Supercharger network are key selling points.
Ford Mustang Mach-E
This selection may be controversial, given that some Mustang enthusiasts may not accept the iconic branding on a fully-electric car, but the Mach-E retains key elements from the muscle car to honor the Mustang name.

More importantly, it offers superior performance to back up its claims. The Mustang Mach-E has battery options ranging from 70 kWh (standard Range) to 91 kWh (extended Range), delivering up to 312 miles (502 km) of range. Additionally, it features single-motor RWD or dual-motor AWD, with the GT Performance Edition generating 480 hp with 634 lb-ft of torque, and achieving 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds.
Tesla Cybertruck
Another Tesla model generating considerable news is the Cybertruck. Its unique design makes it appear to be a vehicle from the future, resembling something out of a sci-fi movie.

Tesla’s Cybertruck has battery options that provide up to 340 miles (547 km) of range. It comes in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants, with the AWD model producing 600 hp. The Cyberbeast variant boasts 845 hp, enabling a 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds, and offering extreme off-road and towing capabilities.
Volkswagen ID.2All
The ID.2all is special for various reasons, but primarily because it shares design similarities with the Volkswagen Polo. The ID.2all is, in essence, an all-electric version and, given how much Indians loved the Polo, the ID.2all would be a great fit for the market.

The electric hatchback will be a front-wheel-drive vehicle with a single-motor setup, delivering 220 bhp. It will feature two battery options: 38 kWh and 56 kWh. The larger unit is said to provide a claimed range of around 450 km. According to reports, the 56 kWh battery pack could come with a 125kW charging capability that could take just twenty minutes to charge from 10 to 80%.
Baojun Yep/Yep Plus
Although the sale and demand for small cars have declined in the past few years, many Indians would still opt for a small family car, especially if it’s an EV. The Baojun Yep and Yep Plus may not be as popular as the other models on this list, but they make perfect sense as potential options for India.

Moreover, JSW MG Motor has filed patents for both the Yep and its five-seater all-electric SUV in India, suggesting that one or both models may enter the market. Interestingly, it’s based on the same platform as the MG Comet EV, potentially simplifying its introduction. However, the company has yet to confirm the launch officially.
