Xiaomi’s SU7 all-electric supercar, boasting a staggering 1,517 horsepower, is redefining the boundaries of speed and performance. The car is shattering records, most notably at the Nürburgring. Now, the SU7 is available for purchase – and it comes with a surprisingly competitive price tag, undercutting even Tesla’s Model S.
The SU7 is currently available only in China, where it retails for 529,900 renmibi, which is about $72,737 based on current exchange rates. Xiaomi, primarily a consumer electronics company, has boldly entered the automotive market with a vehicle they claim to be the “world’s fastest mass-produced four-door sedan.” The automaker’s claims include a top speed of 217 mph and a blistering zero to 62 mph time of just 1.98 seconds.
Xiaomi’s focus on lap times is evident with the addition of two optional packages for the SU7, including a “Racing Package” and a “Nürburgring Nordschleife Limited Edition.”
Both packages include upgrades focusing on track performance. The upgrades include a cooling system that is optimized to handle multiple hot laps on the legendary track known as “The Green Hell.” The SU7 is not only dominating the Nürburgring but is also setting records throughout China.
The Xiaomi SU7 is the fastest production car at the Shanghai International Circuit and also holds the title of fastest mass-produced four-door car at several other circuits, including the Chengdu Tianfu International Circuit, Zhuzhou International Circuit, and Zhuhai International Circuit. According to sources, the arrival of the Xiaomi SU7 at any track in China is met with anticipation.
The car is equipped with advanced aerodynamic features, including a carbon fiber rear wing, that enhances its aesthetics, and, more importantly, increases downforce to improve cornering.
Xiaomi has stated that the SU7 is not a supercar, which could be a message to competitors who are left wondering what a true Xiaomi supercar would look like.
“Thanks to the new aerodynamic design, Xiaomi SU7 Ultra achieves a maximum downforce of 285kg, comparable to that of a supercar,” Xiaomi said in a statement.
With its triple-motor configuration, the Xiaomi SU7 is estimated to have a range of approximately 391 miles. However, this range will likely be lower when pushed to its limits, particularly on a track like the Nürburgring. The interior features carbon fiber accents and a screen for infotainment functions.
While Xiaomi intends for the SU7 to be a luxury vehicle, its track-focused design suggests the company aims for speed excellence first. With a price lower than a Model S in China, Xiaomi has a vast amount of room to grow in the electric vehicle market. The SU7 is currently available for purchase in China, with possible global expansion planned by 2027.
