XPENG’s AI Revolution: Tianji XOS 5.2 Takes Center Stage
XPENG, a prominent electric vehicle manufacturer, recently hosted the XPENG Smart AI Technology Conference in Guangzhou. The event marked the official introduction of the AI-powered Tianji XOS 5.2 in-car operating system. This launch signals XPENG’s commitment to pushing technological boundaries in the automotive sphere.
XPENG Smart AI Technology Conference highlights the Tianji XOS 5.2 launch.
XPENG Chairman and CEO, He Xiaopeng, highlighted the pivotal role of AI in driving innovation since 2023, focusing on advancements in chips, large language models, autonomous driving, and robotics. He emphasized XPENG’s position as a frontrunner in this AI-driven evolution.
The Tianji XOS 5.2 boasts 72 new features and 412 optimizations across its intelligent driving, ecosystem connectivity, and smart cockpit functionalities. A key highlight is the nationwide expansion of XPENG’s XNGP (XPENG Navigation Guided Pilot) intelligent driving system. The goal is to enable AI smart driving wherever navigation is available.
The latest public beta version of the XNGP system already facilitates automatic passage through ETC toll stations. XPENG anticipates true door-to-door smart driving capabilities, including navigation through toll stations, parking facilities, and private campus roads, by the fourth quarter of 2024.
Current projections place XPENG’s smart driving technology in the initial phase of “nationwide usability.” By late 2025 to early 2026, the company expects a significant decrease in user safety and efficiency interventions, aiming to improve overall user experience and bolster the appeal of XPENG vehicles.
The Tianji XOS 5.2 also enhances ecosystem connectivity, integrating with Apple’s ecosystem, offering Siri command compatibility for functions like car washing mode, rapid cooling, and sentry mode. The system also supports gesture control and versatile NFC car control for effortless access to doors, charging ports, and other features.
In the smart cockpit, the system features 80 customizable instrument styles, 1,620 driving mode options, and screen mirroring for both entertainment and work use.
The Tianji XOS 5.2 will be available in China starting July 30th, with a global rollout to ten additional countries, including Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, and France, scheduled for August 15th.
He Xiaopeng also discussed XPENG’s collaboration with Volkswagen. The first vehicle built on their jointly developed China Main Platform (CMP) electronic and electrical architecture (EEA) could enter mass production within two years.
This partnership follows an agreement signed in April of this year, committing XPENG and Volkswagen to develop EEA technology for Volkswagen’s CMP and MEB platforms. These platforms will underpin Volkswagen-branded EVs manufactured in China from 2026.
XPENG has also expanded its charging infrastructure. By July 2024, the company operated 1,300 self-operated stations, including 1,000 supercharging stations. Plans are in place to establish 10,000 self-operated charging stations and 4,500 liquid-cooled supercharging stations by 2026.
Furthermore, the initial batch of XPENG MONA M03 display vehicles is slated to arrive at dealerships across approximately 100 Chinese cities, starting August 1st. XPENG continues to provide insights into the China auto industry, while facilitating connections for suppliers and purchasers.
