Xpeng’s 2025 G6: Faster Charging, Lower Prices, and Advanced Tech
Xpeng, one of the relatively new electric vehicle (EV) brands in Australia, has just unveiled its updated 2025 G6 electric SUV in China. The refreshed model boasts several key upgrades, including a more competitive price point, faster charging capabilities, and advances in technology. This enhanced G6 positions itself as a contender in the rapidly evolving EV market.
Competitive Pricing and Performance Enhancements
According to reports from cnevpost, the 2025 G6 sees a significant price reduction, with the starting price now over 11% lower than the previous model. This translates to an approximate starting price of $A38,600. The top-spec variant also benefits from reduced pricing, coming in under $A43,500. For context, the previous G6 models ranged from approximately $A44,300 to $A61,300 in China. The Australian market will also offer the Long Range variant, with pricing expected to start under $A55,000.
One of the most impressive upgrades is the improved charging speed. Leveraging its 800V architecture, the updated G6 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes. This advancement puts it within competitive range, just behind the Zeekr 7X, which currently holds the title for the fastest-charging production car. The G6 utilizes a 68.5 kWh Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery and an 80.8 kWh Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery pack, expected to be found in the Long Range variant.
Enhanced Comfort and Technology
Beyond the powertrain, Xpeng has enhanced the G6’s chassis with an upgraded dual-wishbone suspension system featuring hydraulic damping. This improvement should significantly enhance the vehicle’s comfort levels. On the technology front, the new G6 now includes 8-megapixel front and rear cameras and two Nvidia Orin intelligent driving chips. This configuration enables advanced LiDAR-free self-driving capabilities. Other notable changes include a new light bar at the front, updated bumpers, a new rear light strip with a spoiler, and updated paint options with the removal of the color Orange. Furthermore, new wheels, ambient lighting with an upgraded interior, and a larger center-screen contribute to a more refined driving experience.
Market Expansion and Australian Arrival
The overall length of the car has been extended by 5 mm, now measuring 4,758 mm. First unveiled at the Shanghai Auto Show in 2023, the G6 was a crucial model for the brand. Customer deliveries to Chinese customers began in the latter half of that year.
For markets with right-hand-drive configurations, like Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia, the first Xpeng models are scheduled for delivery in the second half of 2024. Xpeng has also expanded into more right-hand-drive markets. The G6 will be the market-entry model in countries like the UK, with more models planned to follow.
Early data from carloop indicates that over the first two months of 2025, 224 G6 electric SUVs have already found their way onto roads in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Given its features, many anticipate the upgraded model will arrive in Australia later in 2025, offering a compelling option in the burgeoning EV market.
